Wrap-up Week of Methods 2023 and save the date 2024
We would like to sum up the eighteenth interdisciplinary Week of Methods. It took place September 11. – 14., 2023. With only 21 registrations we got together in a rather small group this year. Nevertheless, the participants draw a positive conclusion and profited from an intense exchange. Especially getting together in presence met with great approval and yielded benefits with regard to consultation concerns and exchanges about cross-sectional topics.
Dr. Olaf Tietje opened the Week of Methods with a practically inspired keynote (Science, Ethics and Reciprocity: Doing Research with Aspiration?). It was followed by parallel workshops:
- Qualitative Social Research – Combining and Triangulating Data and Methods (Dr. Ina Alber-Armenat, Göttingen)
- Text as Data: Computational Methods of Data Collection and Text Analysis (Dr. Valentin Gold, Göttingen)
Due to low demand we had to cancel workshop 3 („Multivariate Time Series Analysis with R”, compiled by Dr. Markus Fülle, currently Deutsche Bank/ Frankfurt a.M.). We are especially sorry for having to cancel a workshop that corresponded so well to the popular request for advanced learners‘ courses in quantitative methods. In addition, it’s a pity that we had no possibility to adequately compensate enrollees for their loss. Another workshop had to be cancelled without replacement due to a sick lecturer.
Despite these limitations, we did our best to create a summer school atmosphere. We would like to thank our PhD students‘ representatives Andreas Basse, Campbell MacGillivray and Samira Mummelthey. With their support we were able to offer an evening program consisting of a guided tour through the historical observatory and a BBQ. We were very pleased with your entirely positive feedback for this evening program.
Furthermore, we appreciate your constructive feedback within the evaluation. The overall results are very positive and give proof of the continuing relevance of the Week of Methods in it’s current format. We will continue to answer your demand with a wide range of alternating topics. Your wishes and suggestions will slip in the organization of the next Week of Methods.
SAVE THE DATE: We are happy to announce the date for the next Week of Methods: 09.-12.09.2024. Applications will be possible in June 2024.
