The Carpentries – demand assessment for carpentry workshops & opportunity to become a certified Carpentries Instructor
We would also be grateful if you could forward it to the colleagues in your working group for who our workshops might be of interest.
If you already use the methods and tools mentioned in the survey and would like to contribute as an instructor or a helper to the future workshops, please write an e-mail to varachkina@sub.uni-goettingen.de.
We offer the opportunity to become a certified instructor (please note that the number of tickets is very limited). The teaching activities cover topics ranging from organizing data in spreadsheets, data cleaning, programming with R or Python, SQL, reproducible analysis, etc. – Typically, we teach a range of modules in pairs and there will be helpers during the live coding sessions.
More information about the instructor training can be found here: https://carpentries.github.io/instructor-training/
Our Göttingen Campus group is coordinated by the library, with instructors and helpers from diverse backgrounds such as information science, computer science, psychology, physics, geo sciences, digital humanities, medical informatics, biology etc.
Early career researchers are very welcome to get in touch! Ideally, you would plan to be affiliated to Göttingen Campus for at least another 1-2 years (but note that due to the pandemic we typically run virtual workshops). As the Carpentries is a world-wide community you can continue to stay involved when you move on to your next position (in or outside academia).
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you are interested to join up and/or have any questions.
The upcoming next instructor workshops will happen in late July and early September (2 days online workshop).
Birgit Schmidt and Hanna Varachkina look forward to hear from you!
