Scientific Presentation – Getting it Right (07./08./15.05.2024)

A good presentation begins with good preparation. In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to improve your presentation skills to a higher level.

On the first two half-days, good preparation is the focal point. We will answer questions like: Who is expected to be present? What is the environment? Both mine and the audiences? (Being online presents different challenges!) What is the occasion and how does that affect our content?
We tackle the question-and-answer session in the workshop as this is the opportunity to have a direct exchange. Our peers in the audience are curious about the presenter’s research. And the audience has a responsibility to make sure that everyone’s research is sound.
Besides one short talk prepared in the course, each participant will give a presentation about their current research. They will prepare in the week between the half days and the full day. Those presentations will be five to seven minutes long.
Lecturer: John Kluempers, Ph.D.
For nearly two decades, John Kluempers, Ph.D. has been using his voice professionally. First, as a radio journalist at Deutsche Welle, Germany’s international broadcaster. And now as a presentation trainer. He has helped hundreds of Ph.D. candidates and post-docs in Germany and Austria to take their presentations to the next level.
He got his doctorate in linguistics at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), lived in Berlin before moving to Tokyo, Japan where he taught at Dokkyo University.
